Transport Assessments
Planning Policy Guidance Note 13: Transport (PPG13) states that, where a proposed new development may have significant transport implications, a Transport Assessment (TA) for larger developments or a Transport Statement (TS) for smaller developments should be prepared and submitted in support of a planning application for the development. TAs and TSs are prepared by the applicant and are used by decision makers in the planning process to determine whether the transport impacts of the development are acceptable.
A Transport Assessment / Statement is a comprehensive and systematic process that sets out the transport issues relating to a proposed developmentand its transport impacts. It identifies measures to deal with any unacceptable transport impacts of the development and to maintain or improve accessibility and safety for all modes of travel, particularly for sustainable alternatives to the car such as walking, cycling and public transport.

Travel Plans
Travel Plans are often required to support planning applications, particularly for larger, more complex developments. Travel Plans seek to manage the potential travel demands of the development and are applicable to both residential and employment developments.
A Travel Plan (TP) is a package of measures , to which the applicant commits, to promote sustainable transport use in preference to the private car, particularly single-occupancy car use. Such a plan for example, could include: car sharing schemes; a commitment to improve cycling facilities or enhance public transport serving the site; a dedicated bus service; or restricted car parking allocations; and promotion of flexible-working practices such as remote access and video conferencing. Travel Plans must include targets, timetables and delivery mechanisms and responsibilities.
